I start by creating a pastel or a painting. I then scan the image into my computer and print it onto fabric. This is the basis of my embroidery. On my beloved Bernina 1030, a 40 year-old, non-computerized sewing machine, I make adjustments so that I can control the length and direction of my stitches. I may use from 30-40 different colors and shades of thread, blending as a pastel artist would, layer upon layer.
